'Pay it forward': First Lady asks Kentuckians to help LA fire victims

When Western Kentucky was hit by deadly tornadoes in 2021, and Eastern Kentucky was submerged by historic flooding, organizations and volunteers from across the country headed to the Commonwealth to help and millions donated to help recovery efforts.

First Lady Beshear is hoping the Bluegrass State will return the favor.

“One small act of kindness has ripple effects that we don't even know about,” Beshear said. “Sometimes it can feel really overwhelming when there is a disaster as large as what LA is looking at, but everybody can do something.”

Beshear said there are dozens of reputable organizations to support. Two, Baby2Baby and World Central Kitchen were hands-on during Kentucky's disasters and are doing the same for LA fire victims.

“The country was there for Kentucky when we needed them, so let's be there for our fellow Americans every step of the way.”

As for first responders on a state level, Governor Andy Beshear said as the wildfires continue to burn, Kentucky's Division of Forestry is ready to assist if called upon.
