“Whether you're supporting your hometown team or you're a tried-and-true fan of the Wildcats, always remember, when it comes to basketball, all roads lead to Lexington,” Gorton said.
From UK’s Historic Memorial Coliseum, surrounded by head basketball coaches from the University of Kentucky, Transylvania University and Fayette County high schools, Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton announced Basketball Week, an eight day stretch of 19 games between January 25th and February 1st.
Mayor Gorton called it the perfect addition to the city’s 250Lex celebration.
“I think basketball always brings in the entire family sports. And this this month, each month in our 250th year has a theme, and January happens to be health and wellness. So, basketball fits right in with that, I think,” Gorton said. “And we have made a point to have mostly family friendly events, and most of the events are free of charge.”
