Jarvis says the weather patterns may shift, creating anything from sleet and ice to snow, depending on the region, but he anticipates the entire state will be impacted.
“In areas that stay mostly snow, this will be a thumping snow. This will be a good snow, several inches. In areas that get into the sleet and freezing rain, significant icing is going to be possible with the storm,” Jarvis said. “There is a possibility that there might be a corridor across the state that sees significant icing, and that icing could cause tree damage as well as power losses due to the ice on the lines. Some parts of the state too will get warm enough that this will just go over to a cold rain.”
Jarvis added that the “southern part of the state, maybe south of the Cumberland Parkway, may not see much in the way of wintry weather with this until late Monday as the system ends as snow across the region.”
Jarvis says this storm should not be taken lightly.
“I tell people not to be scared, but to prepare for this. Go ahead and gas up your vehicles and, you know, make your run to the grocery store. Be prepared to, you know, not be able to get out for, you know, a day or two because of the roads.”
If you do need to drive somewhere during cold weather, Jarvis says to make sure you have an emergency kit packed in your vehicle that includes food, water and blankets in case you get stuck or stranded.
“My best advice is to stay off the roads and stay off the roads during this storm. That would be your safest spot to be,” says Jarvis.
