Lexington’s New Year’s Eve festivities – the kick-off of the community’s 250th anniversary celebration – is moving inside Central Bank Center to avoid bad weather.
Here's the official release from the Lex 250 Commission:
New Year’s Eve at Central Bank Center, presented by Maker’s Mark, will feature a celebration for people of all ages.
“After 250 years, we certainly know that the one thing that’s predictable about Kentucky weather is that it’s unpredictable,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “No problem. We’re prepared. We’re moving inside Central Bank Center to keep everyone safe and dry. Come on downtown, and join the celebration!”
The fun begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday with a first-of-its-kind celebration for children and families. Activities include inflatables, basketball, programming from the Lexington Children’s Museum, a performance from M’Power Rhythm, Lexington’s youth-centered African drumming ensemble, and a special youth-centered countdown to the new year led by Mayor Gorton. The event will continue to 8 p.m. in the main exhibition halls on the second floor of Central Bank Center.
Beginning at 9 p.m., it’s time for an older crowd to join the fun. Live music by “Tee Dee Young” and “Honeychild” will be at the center of the celebration. Food, drinks, and a special countdown to midnight led by Mayor Gorton will make for a festive experience for all.
Eunice Beatty and Kip Cornett, 250Lex Commission Co-Chairs said, “The 250Lex team has been working around the clock to ensure a successful and fun kickoff to our 250th anniversary year. Make your plans to come downtown to celebrate as we launch into a year of celebrating all things Lexington.”
Parking will be available on High Street. The High Street parking lot will open at 5 p.m. with an hourly rate for the evening. Ride share is encouraged. Ride-share drop-offs and pick-ups will be located on Vine Street.
Food and beverages are available for purchase. A clear bag policy will be enforced.
