Lexington sees 19th and 20th gun-related murder of 2024

Lexington police are investigating three separate shootings, two that occurred over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend are considered homicides.

The first happened on Saturday night around 6:45 on Chinoe near Alumni Drive. The Fayette County Coroner has identified the victim as 35-year-old Gregory Williams of Warren Michigan. Williams was taken to the hospital just after police responded to the emergency call. He was pronounced dead later that evening.

The coroner has also identified the victim of a shooting late Sunday night on Versailles Road as 44-year-old Quaynell King.

These homicides mark the 19th and 20th in Lexington as we near the end of 2024. In 2023, the city saw 24 gun-related murders, down from 44 in 2022.

And early this morning shots were fired during an attempted burglary of the VIP Smoke Shop on Hartland Parkway just after 3:30 a.m. Lexington police say property was damaged and shots were fired at suspects who were fleeing the scene. No one is known to have been injured and nothing was stolen.
