Claude Sullivan: Behind The Mic

UK Athletics

A new book is bringing renewed appreciation for Claude Sullivan, the voice of the Kentucky Wildcats for the better part of three decades.

In this special program, WUKY News Director Alan Lytle talks with Alan Sullivan, co-author of Voice of the Wildcats:  Claude Sullivan And The Rise Of Modern Sportscasting.  He shares intimate stories of the life, career, and legacy of his late father.

You'll also hear some of the hall of fame broadcaster's greatest moments behind the mic including the 1958 triple overtime win over Temple, interviews with legendary coaches Adolph Rupp and Bear Bryant, plus rare game audio from his stint as the play by play announcer for the Cincinnati Reds.

Audio excerpts courtesy of UK Special Collections.

Claude Sullivan died of throat cancer in 1967 at the age of 42.

The book is available through University Press of Kentucky.
