About the Talking Drum Series
The Ricochet Effect Podcast is a bold, community-centered platform created and co-hosted by Dr. Abeni El-Amin and Terry Dumphord, and produced by Project Ricochet, a nonprofit organization committed to advancing health equity, youth advocacy, and cultural empowerment.
In West African culture, the talking drum is more than an instrument, it represents community voice. With its ability to mimic human tones, it carried messages across villages, summoned communities, and sustained connection. The talking drum symbolizes rhythm, communication, and unity; the very heartbeat of a people. That spirit animates this special series, The Talking Drum, which amplifies voices carrying messages of healing, accountability, and hope.
This season of The Talking Drum was recorded live at the inaugural 2025 Central Kentucky Black Family Conference, grounding each episode in a space intentionally designed for cultural connection, family strength, and community resilience. The series represents a special crossover between The Ricochet Effect Podcast and #IChampionHealth Chats, made possible through collaboration among Project Ricochet, The Voyage Movement, and Operation Making A Change (OMAC). Together, these partners invite listeners into a shared rhythm, one that listens deeply, speaks truthfully, and moves communities forward.
