Saving Stories: Kentucky middle school student gets a bourbon history lesson from Jim Beam's Booker Noe
WUKY's Saving Stories celebrates Bourbon Heritage Month with this special episode. Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History Director Dr. Doug Boyd shares this 1991 interview with Frederick Booker Noe II, who discusses the bourbon industry and the history of Jim Beam. The Nunn Center has conducted more than one hundred bourbon-related interviews spanning generations of famous personalities, but it wasn't until recently that Boyd and staff discovered this rare conversation between Noe and a Kentucky middle school student. The interviews were part of an educational media project under the direction of Henderson County North Middle School teacher Roy Pullam.

Equinox Jazz Fest: Celebrating 250 Years of Lexington
This year, as Lexington celebrates its 250th anniversary, the Origins Jazz Series has curated the inaugural Equinox Jazz Fest. The Equinox Jazz Fest is a five-day celebration, September 17-21, honoring the rich legacy and boundless future of jazz. Origins co-founder Eli Uttal-Veroff says the festival will feature everything from intimate showcases to electrifying headliner performances, all embodying the spirit of Jazz and its impact on Lexington. He's the guest this week on WUKY's Open Studio with Tom Musgrave.

Open Studio: UK Theatre and Dance chair Susie Thiel previews 'eclectic' season of shows
The University of Kentucky’s Department of Theatre and Dance has announced six productions that will make up its 2025-26 season. The offerings are a dynamic mix of classical, contemporary and thought-provoking performances. Program chair Susie Thiel joins Tom Musgrave for a preview of coming attractions.

UK HealthCare, Lexington Senior Center lead community effort on fall prevention awareness
A fall can happen to anyone, at any age, place or time. For adults age 65 and older, falling can be frightening and a serious health matter — not only for the physical repercussions of falling, but the emotional trauma which often occurs afterwards. Dr. Greg talks with Amie Peel, a registered nurse and UK Trauma’s outreach and education coordinator, about a new Falls Prevention collaboration with the Lexington Senior Center.

Saving Stories remembers WUKY's first broadcast day
October 17 is an important day in the history of WUKY. The station formerly known as WBKY signed on for the first time on October 17, 1940. To mark the station's 85th anniversary, this special edition of Saving Stories with Dr. Doug Boyd from the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History in the UK Libraries, features an interview with Ruth Foxx Newborg, the first program director of the Beattyville, KY radio station.

Open Studio takes you behind the scenes of KCAL Old Time Radio
'Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear....' This week on Open Studio Tom welcomes Norman and Denise Cline of KCAL Old Time Radio. The Troupe, which recreates old time radio shows the way they were originally performed back in the 40s and 50s, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an event Friday October 24th and Saturday the 25th at First Vineyard Winery in Nicholasville.

Last month new federal guidance from Health and Human Services Cabinet Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. regarding acetaminophen, commonly known as Tylenol, sent shockwaves throughout the medical community. Dr. Greg speaks one-on-one with Kentucky Cabinet for Health Family Services Secretary Dr. Steven Stack about what patients, particularly pregnant women, should do in the wake of the new recommendations.

UK Launches new One Health Initiative to improve human, animal health
The mission of the One Health Center Initiative is to increase awareness of One Health by conducting multidisciplinary research — recognizing the health of people, animals and the environment are intricately linked and interdependent. One example of that might be looking at the rise of Alpha Gal syndrome which is transmitted through tick bites. Through these vital connections, the initiative focuses on solving complex health challenges, ranging from zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance to environmental exposures. Dr. Greg talks with S. Reddy Palli, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Entomology at Martin-Gatton CAFE, Bill Gatton Foundation Distinguished Professor and the state entomologist.
