At 106, Man Finally Gets An Elusive High School Diploma
Fred Butler has done many things in his 106 years, from serving in two military theaters of World War II to helping raise five children. But he had never gone to high school, or earned a diploma — the result of leaving school after the eighth grade to work full-time in a print shop to help support his family.

Secretary of State John Kerry is wrapping up his first official overseas trip to Europe and the Middle East. He's shifted U.S. policy on Syria, offering direct assistance to the opposition coalition and non-lethal aid to fighters. He's also offered Egypt's Islamist government $190 million to avert a budget crisis and he's warning Iran that talks can't go on indefinitely.

A Chicago Bridge Gets A Complicated Overhaul
The Wells Street drawbridge carries cars, buses, bikes, pedestrians and elevated trains across the Chicago River. Half of the 91-year-old bridge will be replaced in just nine days. The project is so complex that one Chicago transportation official compares it to open heart surgery.

German Man Caught Impersonating A Cardinal
The world is speculating furiously about who will be the next Pope. The wait was too much for one German man, who tried to sneak into a closed-door meeting of cardinals. He was thrown out by the Swiss Guard after someone noticed his crucifix was too short and his sash was just a purple scarf.

In West Haven, Connecticut, a man ordered coffee at a drive-thru Dunkin Donuts. He then announced a robbery and tried to climb through the window. Police say the clerk threw hot coffee in his face.
