Civil rights pioneer Claudette Colvin has died. She was 86. Her 1955 arrest for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated Montgomery bus helped spark the modern civil rights movement.

In Kenya, a funeral for opposition members killed in the violent political crisis dissolved in fumes of tear gas as police battled stone-throwing youths. The latest violence came as former U.N.
