Formerly Blacklisted Russian Company To Invest In Kentucky Mill

rusal.ru

A company planning a new facility in Kentucky is set to partner with a Russian company once suspected of meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports Braidy Industries, which is planning a $1.7 billion aluminum mill near Ashland, is entering into a deal with Rusal, a Russian company previously blacklisted by the U.S. government for election interference. Rusal plans to invest in the project, taking a 40 percent ownership share of the facility.

The U.S. Treasury Department lifted sanctions on Rusal in January after its owner reportedly agreed to reduce his holding in Rusal’s parent company.

The owner is thought to be a close associate of Russian President Vladamir Putin.
