In this edition of The Ricochet Effect Podcast, presented by Project Ricochet, Dr. Abeni El-Amin shifts the lens from spotlighting a single community leader to centering culture, voice, and collective identity through the powerful presentation of her original poem, “Ode: Stronger Together”. This piece, delivered during the 2026 Central Kentucky Black Family Conference, serves as both a reflection and a call to action, grounded in unity, resilience, and the enduring strength of community.

The Central Kentucky Black Family Conference (CKBFC) was designed as a systems-level convening that brought together families, youth, practitioners, and organizations to address the interconnected dimensions of health, wealth, culture, and community safety. Hosted at The Campbell House in Lexington, the conference functioned as a dynamic access hub; integrating health screenings, panel discussions, youth engagement forums, cultural expression, and resource navigation into one cohesive experience.

Throughout the day, attendees engaged in critical dialogue around mental health, maternal wellness, economic mobility, and violence prevention. The conference featured expert panels, interactive sessions, vendor activations, and artistic programming; including the No Menthol Spoken Word Poetry Contest, creating space for both education and expression. Participants emphasized the importance of unity, collaboration, and culturally responsive solutions, with many highlighting the event as a rare and meaningful opportunity to collectively strategize and build toward sustainable change.

Dr. El-Amin’s poem, “Ode: Stronger Together” encapsulates the spirit of the conference; elevating themes of collective healing, shared responsibility, and the transformative power of coming together across generations and experiences. Through this artistic expression, the podcast underscores a core tenet of Project Ricochet’s work: That storytelling, culture, and voice are essential components of public health and community transformation.
