Fatherhood is a powerful force that shapes families, strengthens communities, and uplifts future generations. In this special edition of The Ricochet Effect, we welcome Mr. David Cozart, Chief Visionary Officer of The Commonwealth Center for Fathers and Families (CCFF), to share his insights on the joys and responsibilities of fatherhood. With nearly three decades of advocacy, ministry, and leadership, Mr. Cozart has dedicated his life to promoting positive father engagement. His work has transformed policies and practices, ensuring that fathers are recognized, supported, and empowered. Join us as we explore his journey, wisdom, and vision for stronger families.
Mr. Cozart is widely called upon for his work around fatherhood and its correlated issues, including educational performance, violence prevention/ intervention, implicit bias, black male achievement, strengthening families and communities, child maltreatment reduction, and other related matters. His work and efforts have impacted policies, procedures, and practices and served thousands of fathers, children, and families. He is a past recipient of the Governors Annual Services Awards, receiving the honor of the Lifetime Achievement Award. He has received other national recognitions and acknowledgements for his work in the fatherhood field, with the most recent being a 2024 recognition in California at the 25th International Families and Fathers Conference.
Mr. Cozart is the son of the late Charles and Eva Hill. He is married to his accomplished wife, Nekesha Cozart, Principal of the esteemed, flagship educational model, Carter G. Woodson Academy. He is the proud father of Zachary, Destiny, and Dalen. He is “G-Daddy” to granddaughter Khalani and grandson Legend.
