'It's gonna be epic': Lexington officials reveal more about city's 250th anniversary plans

Lexingtonians just got a few more hints about what the city’s year-long birthday bash will look, sound, and taste like.

The Thursday night press conference at a packed Tandy Park revealed that the Lex250 celebration will feature different themes every month — ranging from music to diversity to sports to coming home, an effort to invite as many onetime Lexington residents back to the city.

Lex250 co-chair Dr. Eunice Beatty rolled off a list of some of the more than 250 events that are planned, or in the works.

"We will have a sacred gospel music festival. We will have city pop-ups, so kids watch out for those. We will have a jazz festival. We will have a Cheers to 250Lex cabaret show," she said.

And the whole celebration will start just before the calendar flips to 2025, with revelers ringing in the new year with a party downtown Big Apple style.

"In New York City, they drop a ball. So in Lexington, we would naturally drop... a blue horse. It's going to be epic," VisitLex president Mary Quinn Ramer said.

Officials are promising more updates the closer we get to 2025.
