Power outages reported across the state

Powerful storms sweeping through Kentucky have caused numerous power outages.

The high winds that followed storms that rolled through Kentucky downed trees, and knocked out power to thousands of homes. More than 400,00 homes across Kentucky were without power as of 6 p.m. Friday. In Lexington, the KU Outage Map showed tens of thousands of customers currently out in the city.

The Bluegrass airport says no flights have been landing or taking off from the airport. The TSA area is currently without power. They also say the roof of the airport has suffered damage.

There are also several reports of tractor-trailers blown over on area roads.

The Lexington Fire Department says nearly every truck in the city is out responding to runs including reserve apparatus.

Gov. Beshear declared a state of emergency ahead of the storms.

The Lexington Division of Emergency Management is asking persons who have experienced property damage in Fayette County due to today’s wind storm to report it using the following online form (see link below).

The information will be used to determine total property damage from these storms in Fayette County.

There is a possibility that state and federal funds MAY be available to offset some of the cost of storm damage, but it will take time for the assessment to take place.

THIS IS NOT A PROMISE OF STORM DAMAGE FINANCIAL RELIEF. THIS IS FOR DAMAGE ASSESSMENT ONLY. DAMAGE MUST BE FROM TO TODAY’S (MARCH 3, 2023) EXTRAORDINARY WIND EVENT.
