Kentucky communities could gain more control over their own local smoking and vaping regulations – that’s under a new bill filed by Republican senator Wil Schroder.

If passed, Senate Bill 166 would permit cities and counties to get tougher on smoking and vaping rules than state law currently allows.

It’s a change backed by some physicians and health advocates who worry vaping could prove riskier than advertised, but local vaping businesses say the law could mean a serious blow to their bottom line.

WKYT reports the proposal has been assigned to the Senate Health and Welfare Committee, though lawmakers have yet to vote on the bill.

The General Assembly recently passed the halfway point of the 60-day 2022 session.
