If you get your Fayette County school news from X (Twitter), get ready to switch platforms

The social media platform X says it will now allow people to show consensual adult content, as long as it is clearly labeled as such. Fayette County Public Schools is leaving X, formerly known as Twitter.

FCPS will stop posting to X on September 27, 2024.

Some users responded to that news by asking why the school system was abandoning what one poster called “the most efficient way to receive information.”

FCPS spokesperson Dia Davidson-Smith said in a statement that the district conducted an audit of social media usage and determined X was “no longer a platform that generated engagement.” The district said it found engagement on Facebook was close to 47%, 32% on Instagram, and almost 19% on LinkedIn.

X, meanwhile, came in at just around 2.4%. So the decision was made to sunset Fayette County Schools’ account near the end of the month.

The school system is staying on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
