While LexPark and the city worked out a compromise agreement to avoid increased parking rates and expanded enforcement hours more than a year ago, a sizeable bump in the cost of parking citations is set to take effect Sunday as the agency seeks to generate enough funds for maintenance of city garages and other priorities.
The controversy led to action at the state level, where lawmakers in Frankfort created new language requiring LexPark to seek approval of any rate or fine increases.
The bottom line for drivers: LexPark parking fines will jump by $10 — going from $15 to $25. In addition, the new LexPark budget includes a $5 increase in monthly parking passes at the Helix and Transit parking garages.
The Herald-Leader reports fees at the remaining parking facilities will remain flat.
