Following a schedule change, GOP vice presidential candidate JD Vance will be holding a high-dollar fundraiser in Lexington Monday night.

The reception fundraiser was originally scheduled in Pikeville, but campaign officials confirmed it will be a Lexington event. No reason was given for the change in location.

Tickets for the event — which will also feature Congressman Andy Barr and ambassador Kelly Craft — start at $2,500 a person with photo opportunities at $15,000. Craft told the Courier Journal she’s proud to host a candidate who “started in the state of Kentucky and has never left his roots.”

The announcement drew fire from the Kentucky Democratic Party. KDP chair Colmon Elridge said Vance can “try to keep pretending to be Appalachian, but a ritzy fundraiser — moved out of Pikeville to Lexington — isn’t doing his charade any justice.”

The war of words comes after tensions between Vance and Gov. Andy Beshear became a national story during Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris’ search for a VP.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
