British Olympic Team Gold Medalist and World Number One Oliver Townend was once again victorious in the Defender Kentucky Three Day Event at the Kentucky Horse Park

The Defender Kentucky Three Day Event wrapped up Sunday afternoon with a familiar face taking home the trophy. WUKY’s Samantha Lederman brings us this report from the Kentucky Horse Park.

British Olympic Team Gold Medalist and World Number One Oliver Townend has made no secret of how much he enjoys flying to Kentucky with his horses to compete here.

He’s won on his last three trips, and this weekend, competing in his 100th event at the level he added a fourth Kentucky victory to his tally, and his 8th 5* win.

The Defender Kentucky Three Day Event this Spring is an important stepping stone in a pathway that for many of the competitors hopefully leads to the Paris Olympics later this summer.

British riders made sure the trip over from England was worthwhile filling the top 3 spots. The highest placed US rider and new USEF National Five Star Champion is Olympian Lauren Nicholson who finished 5th.

Attendance over the weekend was just over 101,000.

Listeners might remember Lederman and her English accent from when she was a morning news anchor on WUKY from 1999 to 2001.
