Ride along on the 'Road to the Horse'

This weekend the Altech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park will host the 21st annual Road to the Horse.

The mission of RTTH is to inspire people to reach a higher level of horsemanship and to develop unity with a horse based on trust not fear. Three horsemen: the USA’s Ken McNab, Canada’s Tik Maynard and Australian Donal Hancock will be joined by the winner of the Wildcard competition to battle it out for the World Championship title and the lion’s share of the $100,000 purse. Each trainer selects a completely raw 3 year old colt to work with, one of them will emerge victorious on Sunday afternoon.

Tammy Sronce is the RTTH Director of Operations.

Judging focuses on the competitor and the effectiveness of their horsemanship methodology to communicate, educate and build a partnership with their colt based on trust. The horse and rider pairs will be judged on their time in the round pen and saddling pen, and on their railwork, obstacles and overall riding performance. All of these different stages take place in the main arena.

The Wild Card competition takes place Thursday and Friday, the World Championships on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available daily or the entire weekend but are very close to being sold out, you can find more information at RoadToTheHorse.com.
