Kentucky native and Broadway star Colton Ryan returns home for the Lexington Theatre Company's Concert with The Stars. WUKY's Karyn Czar spoke one on one with the young phenom.

From the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government:

Lexington native and Tony Award nominee Colton Ryan is returning to his Bluegrass roots to headline The Lexington Theatre Company’s “Concert With The Stars,” taking place at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Lexington Opera House.

This morning, Mayor Linda Gorton recognized Ryan’s hard work and success by presenting him with an honorary key to the city. “Colton is making Lexington proud, and we are thrilled that he is once again bringing his talents back to the Bluegrass,” Gorton said.

“I am honored and slightly stupefied to be among the company of great Lexingtonians who have also received this key,” Ryan said. “As far as I’m physically away, home is never gone from my soul, or from anything I do. For you all to see and reciprocate, that is the greatest recognition. I guess this means I can always get back in!”

“Concert With The Stars” is a cabaret-style concert of show tunes, interwoven with behind-the-scenes stories. The 2024 edition will be an evening of solo performances by Colton Ryan, along with special guests throughout the show, including students and Teaching Artists from The Lexington Theatre Company’s Artist Development Program.

“We are thrilled to welcome home Colton Ryan for his fourth performance with us, here at The Lexington Theatre Company,” said Lyndy Franklin Smith, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of The Lexington Theatre Company. “We have loved watching his career unfold, as he has been with us as a both a collegiate performer and as one of our Broadway Guest Stars. Now, we are thrilled to produce this solo evening with him, celebrating his recent Tony nomination. We are so very proud of Colton, and glad to have him as a part of our family of artists here at The Lex.”

Ryan made his debut with The Lexington Theatre Company in “Concert With The Stars” 2016 as a collegiate rising star. In 2018, he returned to “Concert With The Stars” as a headlining Broadway veteran, after his Broadway debut in “Dear Even Hansen.” In 2019, Ryan starred in the summer mainstage production of “West Side Story” at The Lex.

Ryan was recently nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway Production of “New York, New York.” He also known for his work in the film “Dear Evan Hansen”, as well as television’s “The Girl from Plainville” and “Little Voice.”
