A council committee heard three hours of testimony from renters, tenants, and those involved in housing in the city as they gathered input on whether to formally prohibit discrimination in renting based on source of income – for many, this comes down to federal housing vouchers.
Renters raised potential issues with the ban, while advocates argued it would only amount to the consideration of renters using the third-party payments – not a requirement to rent to them.
Council member Jennifer Reynolds said the ordinance will be considered at the next Social Service and Public Safety Committee meeting.
