Former president Donald Trump has released a video reiterating his support for Republican Daniel Cameron in the Kentucky governor’s race. But Cameron hasn’t outright returned the favor in the 2024 presidential contest, despite his positive assessment of the economy under the former president.

In a two-minute video posted to social media, Trump again sang Cameron’s praises, calling him fair and tough.

"Daniel Cameron isa young star who has done a great job as your attorney general," Trump begins the video.

Cameron frequently invoked the Trump endorsement in ads in the GOP primary but put more emphasis on touting state endorsements and going after Gov. Beshear and President Biden in the general election.

Asked if Trump deserves another term in the White House, Cameron stopped just shy of a straightforward endorsement.

"Well look, let me just say this. I think it was better than what we have under Joe Biden," he said. "I mean, right now the utility bills are more expensive, your gas is more expensive, your groceries are more expensive."

Pressed on what he would do if he were governor under a second presidential election contested by Trump, Cameron said he wasn’t going to “get into hypotheticals.” The Republican hopeful said he would welcome an in-person Trump appearance in support of the campaign, or from "any Republican governor who wants to come in."

At least three polls conducted this year show Kentuckians overwhelmingly favoring Trump in a rematch with Biden, giving him more than 20 point leads.
