Taking the issue of domestic violence out of the shadows and into the light

October is national domestic violence awareness month and WUKY is joining in the effort to publicize a relatively new city-wide, multi-media, multi-platform campaign called “It’s Time.” WUKY recently spoke with Stephanie Theakston with the Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention Coalition and Diane Fleet, assistant director of Lexington’s Greenhouse 17. In this portion of the conversation, we go a little more in depth about the PR campaign.

The campaign debunks the myth that domestic violence is a private issue. It’s our responsibility to have open conversations, model ways people can support survivors, and hold people who abuse accountable.
