A former candidate for Lexington’s urban county council has been arrested following allegations that he participated in the U.S. Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.

Barry Saturday’s name might be familiar to voters in Lexington’s 4th District, where he ran for a council seat both in 2018 and 2022. In the latter he placed third in the primary, but contested the race and requested a special election.

During a League of Women Voters Forum last year, Saturday described past council members as "unresponsive" to problems in the Glendover neighborhood, expressed frustration with the Comprehensive Plan, and reiterated concerns that Lextran is unsustainable.

The Lexington native was placed under arrest Tuesday by the FBI for his alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection.

The Lexington Times reports Saturday was identified by an online sleuth group known as Sedition Hunters, and arrested after a facial recognition analysis indicated a possible match with a man seen in video of the Capitol riots.

The warrant lists four charges, including Knowingly Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds and others revolving around disorderly conduct.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
