Lexington boasts the largest number of schools in a ranking of the top 10 public high schools in the state.

According to Niche, a college ranking site that has expanded to cover K-12 schools, three Lexington high schools – Dunbar, Lafayette, and Henry Clay – ranked third, fifth, and sixth respectively in their latest study.

The schools were ranked using seven main areas, with each receiving grades in academics, culture and diversity, teachers, and sports.

In overall grades, Dunbar received an A+.

The top scoring public high school in the state was DuPont Manual High School in Louisville, the only ranked school located in the state’s largest city.

The Lexington Herald Leader reports Niche uses information from the U.S. Department of Education, Common Core Data, Civil Rights Data Collection, and others sources to calculate the scores.
