City and community leaders on Friday released a four-year strategic plan to fight violent crime in Lexington. WUKY’s Karyn Czar reports.

Devine Carama, director of ONE Lexington said the plan has been in the works for more than a year and created over a series of hours-long meetings that focused on curbing gun violence among young people ages 13-29.

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton says some recommendations have already been implemented and are working. Homicides within that age group have dropped 50% this year compared to 2021. The ONE Lexington Strategic Plan is broken into two sections; supporting and addressing gun violence and utilizing P.I.E.R framework.

The mayor says many of the recommendations focus on partnerships both nationally and locally including the Community Innovation Lab at the University of Kentucky and Cities United.
