Masterson Station Park the latest to welcome a new city trail

Lexington’s trail system got a little longer – officially – on Wednesday.

The newest section of trail connects an existing path between the Masterson Station neighborhood and the playground with Town Branch Trail – a multi-use path surrounding the McConnell’s Trace neighborhood.

The latest addition to Lexington’s ever-expanding trail network is in councilman and runner Josh McCurn’s district, and he’s already taken a jog around the new path.

"It's a safe, cleaner option, instead of walking behind homes where there's no accessibility points, but this is now ADA compliant," he said. "It gives an opportunity to get off Ruffian Way. You're not seeing bikes or kids now walking down that section to get to the playground."

That playground is also expanding its offerings, in large part thanks to federal American Rescue Plan dollars.

And expect more ribbon cuttings to come. The new trail section at Masterson Station is the first of many new trail projects, include Jacobson, Whitney Young, Gainesway, and Wildwood parks, as well as Raven Run Nature Sanctuary.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
