UK is poised to build a new hospital in Lexington's fast-growing Hamburg area

The school announced plans for a more than $20 million development along I-75. The property could be a future home to a regional hospital, medical office building, or other clinical facilities.

UK spokesman Jay Blanton says UK HealthCare is a driving force in the school’s momentum.

"The healthcare enterprise continues to grow and accelerate at an expansive rate. Revenues have grown there by 200% in the last decade."

The goal is not only to expand access to healthcare but to ensure that its more conveniently located for patients. The proposed medical campus will provide acute care services to complement UK HealthCare’s main medical center facilities, UK Chandler Hospital and UK Clinic.

The deal was set to be vote on by the school’s board of trustees today.
