Self-described 'America first, authentic Republican' Savannah Maddox is prepping a run for Kentucky governor

Outspoken Republican state Rep. Savannah Maddox is entering the increasingly packed GOP race to unseat Gov. Andy Beshear.

While a major announcement was scheduled Monday, Maddox has reportedly filed her paperwork with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance to fundraise in the governor’s race and launched a campaign website.

Maddox has aligned herself with hardline conservatives on issues ranging from gun rights to bills barring vaccine mandates. In a 2021 campaign ad, she left little room for those who might run to her right.

"As a Donald Trump-endorsed, America first, authentic Republican, I've been standing up to the woke radical left and you better believe I'm going to keep doing it."

The Dry Ridge lawmaker joins a number of high-profile Republicans in the gubernatorial primary, including state agriculture commissioner Ryan Quarles, Attorney General Daniel Cameron, and state auditor Mike Harmon.
