Prep work for touted Ford battery park uncovers unmarked graves at Hardin County site

An archeological review of the site for Ford's highly-anticipated battery park in Hardin County has uncovered 19 unmarked graves on the property. But the discovery isn't expected to affect permitting decisions.

Part of the permitting process for the celebrated project included archeological field work in March that uncovered an unmarked burial site on the grounds set to house the massive electric battery park. The finding wasn't a complete surprise, as a previous burial site was reportedly discovered in the area and moved back in 2003.

The Army Corps of Engineers says it's now working with the Kentucky Heritage Council and the state Historic Preservation Office, along with family descendants, to work out plans to relocate the cemetery.

The Corps does not expect the process to alter its permitting decision.

Ford hopes to complete the much-touted battery park in 2025.
