The cheers went on for well over an hour before the bell rang to mark the start of the school day and it was all for WCHS Principal Morgan Howell.
Howell took over the position at the start of the 2020 school year. The National Guard member and educator with nearly 20-years of experience says he was asked by administrators last month to resign or face a negative evaluation and demotion. He requested a few more days beyond the given deadline to decide. He received a demotion letter from the district on Monday.
Howell says the numbers show the school with about 13-hundred students, has become more successful. ACT scores are up a full point in one-year, internal impact and discipline surveys show “great improvement” and recent district walk-throughs were the highest in school history. Several parents at this morning’s rally like Nancy Nicole Church and Sherry Jackson Thompson say Howell has turned the school around.
As for discipline, student I talked with say Howell is on-point. Seniors Julia Hill, Stephen Duffy and Anna Beth Hawkins.
We reached out to Woodford County Public Schools, Superintendent Danny Adkins in particular. We were told the district could not comment on personnel matters.
