Ky. Legislature overrides Governor Beshear's redistricting vetoes, KDP sues

Lawmakers in Frankfort overturned Governor Andy Beshear's veto of redistricting bills and already a lawsuit is pending. Karyn Czar has details.

Wednesday night Governor Andy Beshear vetoed HB 2 and SB 3 which map out the new districts in Kentucky based on the population shifts in the latest census. Beshear said he vetoed the maps because he had issue with the new district lines being unfairly drawn but said he would not be named as a plaintiff in any suits filed over the legislation.

But the Kentucky Democratic Party is willing. Moments after the votes, the party took legal action on the redistricting calling the maps a power grab and that they “leave Kentucky residents disenfranchised by the unconstitutional, gerrymandered districts drawn by Republicans.” Republicans argued that the maps follow all legal guidelines.
