Kentucky voters will choose new legislators in three districts today

Special elections are being held Tuesday to fill three vacant seats in the Kentucky General Assembly. Senate District 22 was left vacant following the death of Tom Buford in July. The district covers Garrard, Jessamine, Mercer, Washington and a portion of Fayette County. The House District 51 seat is also open because of the death of Representative Bam Carney this past summer. The 51st district includes Taylor and Adair counties. House District 89 will also have a new representative after former Representative Robert Goforth resigned amid charted related to an alleged attack on his wife. District 89 includes Jackson, Laurel and Madison counties.

Voters have also gotten to utilize new voting rules that Governor Andy Beshear signed into law which allow three days of early voting. The polls will close today at 6:00 p.m.
