Alice Forgy Kerr Not Seeking Reelection In 2022
A long-serving Lexington senator has announced she won’t be seeking another term in the state senate in 2022.
Republican Alice Forgy Kerr has represented the 12th Senate District in Fayette County since 1999. In her early advertisements, Kerr campaigned in part on her ability to bring "a different background" and "better ideas" to Frankfort.
One of just three female GOP state senators, Kerr has served as chairwoman of the Senate Economic Development Committee and sits on several other legislative panels. In recent years, she’s become a vocal advocate for banning conversion therapy.
Kerr said she made the decision “knowing that there are other capable individuals in the district” that can run for the seat, but stopped short of elaborating on her reasons for declining another term.
