A high honor for a member of the WUKY family. Rock and Roots host, local activist and musician DeBraun Thomas, who also hosts the Crunkadelic Funk Show every Saturday night on WUKY and is the co-host of the new Advanced D & D podcast with Dan Wu, received a Lyman T. Johnson Torch of Excellence Award from the University of Kentucky on Monday.
The program, sponsored by the UK Alumni Association Lyman T. Johnson African American Alumni Group, in partnership with the UK Office for Institutional Diversity, honors and celebrates African American students and alumni from each college who epitomize the ideals of Lyman T. Johnson, who in 1949, became the first African American to attend the state’s flagship university.
UK’s academic colleges select alumni “whose faith, hard work and determination have positively affected the lives of people on the UK campus, the city, state or nation.” This is the 30th year for the awards program.
