Thousands Of The State's Unemployed To Get One-Time Check

Less than a week after the Governor promised help for Kentucky’s unemployed, thousands who have been waiting, some for months, to receive their UI benefits are getting a financial boost. $48 million in CARES Act funding is being earmarked for payments to Kentuckians who have qualified but never gotten unemployment checks amid the pandemic.

Governor Andy Beshear signed the executive order Tuesday which will provide $1,000 to unpaid UI claimants who do not have any questions regarding fraud or identity issues and $400 checks will go to those who fell below federal guidelines this summer and made too little to receive supplemental jobless benefits. “Looks like there are about 16,500 individuals that will receive the $1,000 payment and about 25-thousand that will receive the $400 payment,” Beshear said “They are single-payments made only once to the claimants but a chance to help people out.”

The Governor will have another update on unemployment Thursday afternoon at 4:00.
