A new PBS documentary reveals more about Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell's involvement in securing a Supreme Court nomination for Justice Amy Coney Barrett.
While it's well known that McConnell acted swiftly to fill the U.S. Supreme Court seat once occupied by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Frontline documentary "Supreme Revenge: Battle for the Court" features former McConnell chief of staff Josh Holmes describing a phone call the Republican leader reportedly made to President Trump on the night Ginsburg passed away.
"McConnell told [Trump] two things. He said, 'First, I’m going to put out a statement that says we’re going to fill the vacancy.' Second, he said, 'You’ve gotta nominate Amy Coney Barrett,'" Holmes relays.

The Barrett nomination would come roughly a week later and during the home stretch of the 2020 general election, despite statements from Ginsburg's granddaughter that the justice's last wish was that her replacement would be chosen by the next president.
Media outlets are awaiting comment from McConnell's office about the new information.
