Lexington Sets Another Single-Day Record Number Of COVID-19 Cases

Lexington has again topped the single-day record of number of positive Coronavirus cases. The Fayette County Health Department confirmed 116 new cases on Monday. That brings Fayette County's total to 2,972. According to officials at the LFCHD, in the past two weeks, there have been 793 total cases in the county, compared to 793 total for the month of June.

There was some good news to report. There were no COVID-19 related deaths reported in Lexington on Monday. The city's death toll stands at 45.

The city’s highest one-day totals to date have been:

  • 116 cases, July 27
  • 100 cases, July 23
  • 83 cases, July 9
  • 69 cases, July 15 and July 19
  • 65 cases, July 10
  • 62 cases, July 6
  • 61 cases July 21
  • 58 cases, July 13
  • 56 cases, July 11
  • 53 cases, July 23

Health officials say lack of masks and social distancing in public spaces, family gatherings, work exposure and travel to hotspots are adding to the increased number of COVID-19 cases.

The state health department has issued a travel advisory asking you not to visit any state that has a positivity rate of 15% or more. They are Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, Puerto Rico, South Carolina and Texas. If you do go to one of these states, it's recommended that you self-quarantine for 14 days after last leaving these locations.
