The Fayette County Health Department reported 117 new cases of the COVID-19 from Saturday and Sunday, bringing the county’s total to 2,460 since the first known case was confirmed back in March. Health Department officials said there were also 21 newly confirmed cases in children and teenagers under the age of 18. There were no deaths related to the virus reported this weekend in Lexington.
There has been a shift recently in the age group most affected by the Coronavirus. While cases in people aged 55 or older went down 34% over the previous two weeks, it’s risen by 22% for those who under 34. 18-34 year olds now make up a third of all the cases in Fayette County. On a positive note, the number of those hospitalized in Lexington dropped slightly last week.
