Date, Location Announced For Statue In Lexington Honoring Women

lexingtonky.gov

A monument to recognize the contributions of women throughout history will be placed in downtown Lexington in time to mark the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. More from WUKY’s Karyn Czar.

Music by the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Choir helped organizers set the mood for Monday’s Women’s Equality Day Celebration and announcement.  On August 26th, 2020, exactly 100 years since women gained the right to vote, the Breaking the Bronze Ceiling monument will be dedicated on the Lexington Financial Center Plaza near the corner of Vine and Mill Streets. Former Governor Martha Layne Collins called this monument long overdue.

More than a hundred artists submitted their work for the project. The field has been narrowed to four and you’ll have a chance to view their proposals along with the committee on Thursday September 19th at Art’s Place from 6-8pm. The group is half-way to their $500,000 goal to complete to project.
