Cincinnati-Based LaRosa's Pizza Celebrates Grand Opening Of Lexington Restaurant

Alan Lytle

A little slice of Cincinnati is officially back in Lexington today.  WUKY’s Alan Lytle has details.

LaRosa's is a name synonymous with the greater Cincinnati area; so much so that the franchise gives away free pizza at Cincinnati Reds games when the home team records 11 or more strikeouts.  Now the family restaurant chain begins serving up slices to Lexington customers Monday.  The restaurant is located on Richmond Road between Old Todds Road and Mount Tabor Road next to Skyline Chili.

The pizzeria features a Keeneland-themed room, a room decorated for local sports teams, and a full-service bar.

Local franchisee Gary Holland says LaRosas has reached almost cult status outside its home base of greater Cincinnati.

"About five years ago I saw a facebook page called 'We Want Skyline and LaRosas in Lexington,' and I remember thinking we've got to hurry up and make this happen," Holland told WUKY's Alan Lytle.

LaRosa's CEO Michael LaRosa says they may be well known for their pizza but that’s far from all they offer.

"If you don't feel like pizza and you want a very good salad, or appetizer, or sandwich for dinner, we have pasta dinners, there is a wide variety on our menu that’s pleasing to everybody, as well."

88-year old founder Buddy LaRosa was also on hand Monday for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
