Group Gathers To Celebrate The Gift Of Life

Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates

More than 200 organ transplants were performed last year just at the University of Kentucky. More than 113,000 people are on a waiting list nationwide. As Karyn Czar reports, one group is trying to help them find donors.

Thursday members of KODA, which stands for Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates met to thank doctors, advocates and sponsors for helping spread the word about organ donation. Crysta McGee and her family didn’t realize the growing need for organ donors until her grandfather needed a kidney.

McGee’s grandfather died while still on dyalisis but his illness sparked a change in her career. She is now a community educator for KODA and trust for life.

To become an organ donor, you can sign the back of your driver’s license or visit register me dot org. You can also go on-line to register to become a living organ donor for patients who need a kidney or partial liver.
