Three gas station clerks are accused of trying to pocket winning Kentucky lottery tickets. The arrests were made after a months-long undercover sting operation. Lottery officials went to 60 retailers in Louisville and gave the clerks tickets that would scan as $18,000 winners.
The undercover security personnel told the clerks they didn’t know if any of the tickets were winners. An internal alert system helped investigators pin-point the suspects when they allegedly tried to cash the tickets. In 2011 and 2015, several people were arrested for a similar scam. Investigators ran the same sting to catch them.
