LexPark Pronounces Latest Food For Fines Program Another Success

Lexington Parking Authority

LexPark has released the final tally for this year’s Food For Fines program; that’s the initiative that allows people with outstanding parking tickets to pay them off by donating cans of food.

The Parking Authority says 8,431 pounds (or 4.2 tons) of food was donated during the campaign. That equals over 7,600 food items, which wiped out some $11,400 in citations. All donations received by LexPark were given to God's Pantry Food Bank.

Customers were encouraged to bring in 10 cans of food and receive $15 off a parking citation. “Food for Fines” ran from November 20 through December 15.

LexPark executive director Gary Means says over the past four years the program has brought in more than 16 tons of food to help people in need in Central Kentucky.
