Lexington Firefighters Dispatched To Texas For Water Rescues

Josh James

18-members of the Lexington Fire Department have hit the road and are heading to College Station which is about 95 miles out of Houston. They’ll be assisting first responders there.

Lexington firefighters are trained for all types of emergencies and they will put that training to use in Texas. The group met this morning for a briefing and headed south this afternoon. For some, it will be their first time assisting with hurricane disaster relief, but others like Wes Gilliam will bring a wealth of experience. 12-years ago he headed to Mississippi to help Katrina first responders.

Mayor Jim Gray says this crew’s absence won’t affect emergency response time in Lexington.

The group of 18 is heading to College Station which is about 95 miles out of Houston. They’ll be gone for nine days.
