Lexington’s emergency services just became more efficient Thursday with the opening of the new Public Safety Operations Center. Karyn Czar reports.
What was old is new again. Instead of building a new facility from the ground up, the city of Lexington took the old Juvenile Detention Center building that had been sitting empty and was still owned by the city, renovated it and reopened it as the new Public Safety Operations Center. Mayor Jim Gray said the move saved Lexington taxpayers millions.
Not only does the new center boast state of the art technology, for the first time, LexCall, Emergency 9-1-1 and the Division of Emergency Management will be at the same location.
On average, LexCall and E-911 get about 27-hundred calls each day.
