Fayette Commonwealth's Attorney Ray Larson Announces Retirement

WTVQ TV

The long time top prosecutor in Fayette County will be calling it quits at the end of the month.  Commonwealth Attorney Ray Larson has announced his retirement on Thursday.  Larson, who has served as Fayette Commonwealth's Attorney for nearly 32 years, will retire on Oct. 1. His last day in office will be Sept. 30.

Larson said in a press release that it was the right time and he’s been honored to serve the citizens of Fayette County as their chief prosecutor.

Larson said that during his tenure as Fayette Commonwealth's Attorney, his office has been guided by three principles:

  •
    • Every person should be treated fairly and the same under the same facts;
  •
    • Every person should be held responsible for their conduct; and
  •
    • Every person should suffer consequences for violating our laws.

Larson said that he believes the office has operated free of politics as it is his belief that prosecution and politics do not mix.
Gov. Matt Bevin will appoint Larson's replacement. No information has been released yet about who will be appointed or when that person would take office.
