Ky. Supreme Court Denies Effort To Reopen Abortion Clinic

WLEX TV

A Kentucky abortion clinic closed amid a fight with the state's Republican governor has lost its appeal to the state's Supreme Court in an effort to reopen.  The EMW Women's Clinic in Lexington has been closed since June, when the state Court of Appeals granted Gov. Matt Bevin's request to close it. The appeals court reversed an earlier ruling in Fayette Circuit Court.

The clinic appealed to the state's highest court to overturn the appellate court ruling.

In an unsigned order on Thursday, the Supreme Court denied the clinic's appeal.

Bevin wanted the clinic shut down because he says they were performing abortions without a license from the state.

The clinic's owner has said he's exempt from the licensure requirement because the clinic is a private physician's office.
